 Farm Street 175

3. Converts

Throughout its history the church has been known for welcoming converts to Roman Catholicism and has received thousand converts, some of the most notable including novelist and philanthropist Lady Georgiana Fullerton, who is commemorated in the church by a plaque, in 1846, and Bl John Sullivan SJ in 1896. This reputation continued well into the 20th century, and famously Dame Edith Sitwell was received at Farm Street in August 1955. Those present included Evelyn Waugh (who had previously been received by Fr Martin D’Arcy SJ at Oxford) and Alec Guinness.
